Training Types

  • Phase One - Group Training

Our yearly schedule is divided into four six-week Sessions. That is a total of 24 one-hour weekly classes. Our classes start at Week One with Basic, basic mechanical repetition and by week 24 it will have turned into a smooth rhythmic, efficient, and confident group. The instruction starts with basic mechanics and evolves from “HOW TO THROW” INTO “HOW TO PITCH”. Ideally, we start at Week One and build our pitcher hour by hour, day by day, week by week and year by year. However, if you decide you want to join our program somewhere in mid-stream, don’t hesitate, get in as sone as possible. Don’t loose one minute, don’t wait for the next session because every minute counts, we’ll prorate your fee. See our Training schedule below.

  • Phase Two - Private Lessons

Our yearly schedule is divided into two Phases. We will run Private Lessons in both Phases (One and Two) on Mondays and Saturdays. We will run Private Lessons on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Phase Two only. Generally, newer students start with “where is my pitcher now” and a basic analysis, followed by a short-range plan. Students that have been with our program know their strengths and weaknesses and will attack those specifics. If video is required, we can add that into the process. To get started contact me to discuss what we will need to be most efficient at our first lesson.

Training Levels

There are 4 points of nonnegotiable mechanics that are required to advance through the levels; 1. wrist snap 2. clean, straight, aligned arm circle 3. Hip rotation synchronized with arm Circle and stride 4. Stride that supports the above and two non-mechanical standards 5. Low 40 mph range for speed 6. Relatively consistent in the strike zone.  All moves are totally at the discretion of Tom Besser ONLY! The above are dependent on space being available.
  • W1

W1 is geared to producing solid basic mechanics and I don't like moving them to soon. However, I don't like boring them by over doing it.

  • W2

The format for W2 is 30 mins of Fastball (Mechanical drills, speed drills & location drills), 8 to 10 mins of Change-up (4 different change ups) and the remaining time is "Drop." I move them from W2 to W3 when they demonstrate a good drop and get their Fastball over 50 mph.

  • W3

Our format in W3 is Fastball (mechanical drills, location drills & speed drills) for 20 to 25 mins. Change up (handshake, knuckle, circle (OK) & back hand, rotating one per week) for 5 - 8 mins. Each even numbered day (2,4,6) we teach curveball and screwball for 15 mins each. Each odd numbered day (1,3,5) we teach drop & riseball for about 15 mins each. If there is more than one W3 at that location we divide the students by speed (The higher the speed, the later the class). Speeds are recorded every even numbered day.
